# Browsing Campaigns

Campaigns are advertising opportunities created by businesses. Instead of you waiting for businesses to find you, campaigns let you proactively apply to advertise for businesses looking for newsletters like yours.

## Understanding Campaigns

A campaign is a business's request for newsletter advertising. Campaigns include:

* Campaign title and description
* The business creating the campaign
* Date range when ads should run
* Payment details (fixed amount or negotiable)
* Description of their ideal newsletter

Think of campaigns as job postings — businesses post what they need, and newsletters apply if they're a good fit.

## Viewing Available Campaigns

### Navigate to Campaigns

1. Click **Campaigns** in the sidebar
2. You'll see a grid of available campaigns from businesses

### Campaign Information

Each campaign card shows:

4. **If Approved** — A booking is created and you proceed with the ad

## Campaign Payment Types

### Fixed Payment

* The business has set a specific price
* You accept this price when applying
* No negotiation available

### Negotiable Payment

* The business is open to different rates
* You propose your own amount when applying
* They may accept, decline, or negotiate

### Cost Per Lead (CPL)

* The business pays per lead generated through your newsletter
* Pricing shows as a per-lead rate with a maximum payout
* When approved, the max payout is escrowed
* You publish the ad with a special lead capture link
* Readers who click through fill out a branded form (name, email, phone, plus any custom questions)
* Your earnings are calculated as `leads × cost per lead`, capped at the max payout
* Payout is processed **4 days after your newsletter post is published**
* The standard 13% platform fee applies to your calculated earnings

> **Example:** A CPL campaign offers $10/lead with a $500 max payout. If your newsletter generates 30 leads, you earn $300 (30 × $10). If you generate 60 leads, you earn the max of $500. After the 13% platform fee, you'd receive $261 or $435 respectively.

## Tips for Successful Applications

### Match Your Audience

Businesses describe their ideal newsletter. Apply when:

* Your audience demographics align
* Your newsletter niche matches their product/service
* Your engagement rates are strong

### Write a Compelling Message

Your application message should:

* Explain why your audience is perfect for their campaign
* Highlight relevant metrics (subscriber count, open rate)
* Show you understand their goals
* Be professional and concise

**Good example:**

> "Our newsletter reaches 15,000 marketing professionals with a 45% open rate. We cover topics directly related to your SaaS product, and our audience actively engages with tool recommendations. We'd love to feature your campaign in our primary sponsor spot."

**Avoid:**

> "I have a newsletter and want to work with you."

### Propose Competitive Rates

If the payment is negotiable:

* Research fair rates for your newsletter size
* Consider the value you provide
* Don't underprice yourself, but be realistic

### Apply Promptly

Good campaigns attract multiple applications:

* Apply early when you find a good match
* Check campaigns regularly for new opportunities
* Don't wait — good opportunities may fill quickly

## Tracking Your Applications

### View Application Status

After applying, track your applications:

1. Navigate to **Campaigns** → **Applications** (if available)
2. Or check your notifications for updates

### Application Statuses

| Status       | Meaning                            |
| ------------ | ---------------------------------- |
| **Pending**  | Awaiting business review           |
| **Approved** | Business accepted your application |
| **Rejected** | Business chose other newsletters |

### When Approved

If your application is approved:

1. You'll receive a notification
2. A booking is created
3. The campaign creative (if provided) becomes available
4. Proceed with the standard booking workflow

## Finding the Right Campaigns

### Look for Alignment

Best campaigns for you have:

* Target audience matching your subscribers
* Reasonable payment for your newsletter size
* Date ranges that work with your schedule
* Products/services your audience would appreciate

### Consider Long-term Value

Some campaigns might lead to:

* Repeat bookings with the same business
* Referrals to other advertisers
* Building your portfolio of successful campaigns

### Know When to Pass

Skip campaigns that:

* Don't match your audience at all
* Offer payment below your minimum
* Have unrealistic requirements
* Conflict with existing bookings

## Campaign vs. Direct Bookings

| Aspect            | Campaigns                   | Direct Bookings              |
| ----------------- | --------------------------- | ---------------------------- |
| **Who initiates** | Business creates, you apply | Business finds and books you |
| **Competition** | Multiple newsletters apply | Only your ad slots |
| **Pricing** | Often negotiable | Your listed price or bids |
| **Discovery** | You find opportunities | They find you |

Both are valuable — campaigns let you be proactive while direct bookings come to you.

## Common Questions

### How many campaigns can I apply to?

Apply to as many as fit your newsletter and schedule. Just ensure you can fulfill all bookings if approved.

### What if I don't get approved?

Rejection is normal. Businesses receive many applications and choose the best fit. Keep applying to other campaigns.

### Can I withdraw an application?

Contact platform support if you need to withdraw an application before it's reviewed.

### How quickly do businesses respond?

Response times vary. Some businesses review applications daily, others weekly. You'll be notified when there's a decision.

### Can I apply with multiple newsletters?

Yes. If you have multiple newsletters connected, you can apply with whichever is the best fit for each campaign.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://adly-news.gitbook.io/adly.news-docs/02-newsletter-owners/05-browsing-campaigns.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
