# Creating Campaigns

Campaigns on [adly.news](https://adly.news) let you post your advertising needs and have newsletters apply to work with you. Instead of finding newsletters one by one, they come to you.

## Understanding Campaigns

### What is a Campaign?

A campaign is your advertisement for advertising. You describe:

* What you're promoting
* When you want ads to run
* What kind of newsletters you're looking for
* How much you're willing to pay

Newsletter owners browse campaigns and apply if they're a good fit.

### Campaigns vs. Direct Booking

| Approach          | Campaigns                              | Direct Booking                |
| ----------------- | -------------------------------------- | ----------------------------- |
| **Who initiates** | Newsletter owners apply to you | You find and book newsletters |
| **Effort** | Lower — they come to you | Higher — you search |
| **Control** | Choose from applicants | Choose specific newsletters |
| **Discovery** | Find newsletters you might have missed | Limited to what you search |
| **Best for** | Scaling, finding multiple newsletters | Specific newsletter targets |

## Creating a Campaign

### Navigate to Campaigns

1. Click **Campaigns** in the sidebar
2. Click **Create Campaign**

### Campaign Details

#### Basic Information

| Field          | Description                | Example                 |
| -------------- | -------------------------- | ----------------------- |
| **Title** | Campaign name | "Summer Product Launch" |
| **Start Date** | When ads can begin running | July 1, 2026            |
| **End Date**   | Last date for ads          | July 31, 2026           |

#### Payment Configuration

Choose how you'll pay:

**Fixed Payment:**

* Set a specific amount you'll pay
* Newsletter owners know exactly what they'll earn
* Simpler for both parties

**Negotiable:**

* Open to discussing rates
* Newsletter owners propose their price
* More flexibility

**Cost Per Lead (CPL):**

* Pay only for qualified leads
* Set a cost per lead and a maximum payout
* Leads are captured through a branded form page
* You only pay for actual results

| Option     | Amount Field               | Use When                                 |
| ---------- | -------------------------- | ---------------------------------------- |
| Fixed | Enter exact amount | You have a set budget per placement |
| Negotiable | Optional suggested amount  | You're flexible on pricing               |
| CPL | Cost per lead + max payout | You want to pay based on lead generation |

#### CPL Lead Capture Configuration

When creating a CPL campaign, you'll configure:

| Field                | Description                                           |
| -------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------- |
| **Cost Per Lead** | How much you'll pay for each captured lead |
| **Max Payout** | The maximum total you'll pay per newsletter placement |
| **Custom Questions** | Additional form fields beyond name, email, and phone |

**Default fields collected:** Name, email, and phone number are always included on the lead capture form.

**Custom form fields:** Add additional questions to qualify leads:

* **Text** — Short text input (e.g., "Company name")
* **Textarea** — Long text input (e.g., "What are you looking for?")
* **Number** — Numeric input (e.g., "Team size")
* **Select** — Dropdown with predefined options (e.g., "Budget range")

The lead capture page is automatically branded with your business logo and description.

> **How CPL payments work:** The max payout is escrowed when a newsletter is approved. After the ad is published, leads are collected for 4 days. Your actual payment is calculated as `leads × cost per lead`, capped at the max payout. The newsletter receives 87% of the calculated amount (the standard 13% platform fee applies).

#### Ideal Newsletter Description

Describe your target newsletters:

* What niche or topic should they cover?
* What audience demographics are you targeting?
* What size newsletters are you looking for?
* Any specific requirements?

**Good example:**

> "We're looking for newsletters focused on productivity, remote work, or tech for professionals. Ideal audience is knowledge workers aged 25-45 who use digital tools daily. Open to newsletters with 5,000+ subscribers and strong engagement rates."

**Avoid:**

> "Any newsletter."

### Business Branding

Add your business information:

| Field                    | Description            |
| ------------------------ | ---------------------- |
| **Business Name** | Your company name |
| **Business Logo** | Upload your logo |
| **Business Description** | What your company does |
| **Business Website** | Your website URL |

This helps newsletter owners understand if you're a good fit for their audience.

### Campaign Goals (Optional)

Describe what you're trying to achieve:

* Brand awareness

You can optionally provide:

## Tips for Successful Campaigns

### Write a Compelling Campaign

* Be specific about what you're looking for
* Describe your ideal newsletter audience
* Explain what makes the opportunity attractive
* Set realistic payment expectations

### Provide Complete Business Info

Newsletter owners want to know:

* Who you are
* What you're promoting
* Why their audience would care
* That you're legitimate and professional

### Set Appropriate Payment

**Fixed pricing:**

* Research market rates
* Consider newsletter sizes you're targeting
* Price attractively to get quality applicants

**Negotiable pricing:**

* Provide a suggested range if helpful
* Be truly open to negotiation
* Respond reasonably to proposals

**CPL pricing:**

* Set a cost per lead that reflects the value of each lead to your business
* Set a max payout that accounts for the newsletter's audience size
* Keep custom form fields minimal to maximize conversion rates
* Use select fields for qualification questions to get structured data

### Be Responsive

* Review applications promptly
* Don't leave newsletters waiting
* Communicate clearly about decisions

### Cast a Wide Net

Campaigns work best when:

* Your ideal newsletter description is clear but not too narrow
* Payment is competitive
* Your business is appealing to newsletter audiences

## After Approving Applications

### Booking Creation

When you approve an application:

1. A booking is created
2. You may need to provide creative assets
3. Payment is processed
4. The ad is scheduled

### Working with Multiple Newsletters

If you approve multiple applications:

* Each becomes a separate booking
* Manage them in **My Bookings**
* Track dates in your **Calendar**

## Editing Campaigns

### What You Can Edit

While a campaign is active:

* Description updates
* Date range adjustments
* Payment changes

### Pausing a Campaign

If you've received enough applications:

1. Go to the campaign
2. Click **Pause**
3. New applications are stopped
4. Existing applications remain

### Cancelling a Campaign

If you need to cancel:

1. Go to the campaign
2. Click **Cancel** (if available)
3. Campaign is marked cancelled
4. Existing applications/bookings may need handling

## Common Questions

### How many applications will I receive?

This depends on:

* How attractive your campaign is
* Your payment offer
* How many newsletters match your criteria
* Current platform activity

### How long should I keep a campaign active?

Keep it active until:

* You've received enough quality applications
* You've approved enough newsletters
* The campaign period begins

### Can I run multiple campaigns simultaneously?

Yes. Consider:

* Different campaigns for different audiences
* Different date ranges
* Different budget allocations

### What if I don't get enough applications?

Try:

* Increasing your payment offer
* Broadening your ideal newsletter description
* Extending the campaign date range
* Improving your business description
* Adding targeting options (niche/location) to attract more relevant applicants

### Can I contact applicants before approving?

Typically, approval creates the booking. Detailed communication happens after. Your campaign details should provide enough info for their application.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://adly-news.gitbook.io/adly.news-docs/03-businesses/04-creating-campaigns.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
